About Me

My name is Newmond Tibin. At present, I am the Bernama bureau chief for the state of Sabah in East Malaysia dubbed the Land Below the Wind.

And for those of you who have never been to Sabah, you are most welcome to visit us and I'm more than willing to guide you at least to the foot of Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia. It's a very nice place and you won't regret it.

I have been with Bernama as a journalist for 12 years and the nature and scope of work involves ad hoc operations of news of the day and management.

This mainly involves human interest news or stories such as natural catastrophes and disasters whereby I am on call twenty-four hours a day.

As a journalist, I have covered and reported several major events including five consecutive SEA Games since 1995 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Bernama being a national news agency has linked with other foreign wires and news agencies in disseminating news information for consumption of the general local and foreign public.

One of the reasons why I decided to pursue a Master Degree in Journalism at the Ateneo De Manila Unversity is for career advancement.

As everybody else, I have my own goal in life – that is to go far in my present career as a journalist or if possible a versatile journalist. I have a few options to achieve it, and one of those is to take up a post graduate studies with special focus on convergent journalism.

This hopefully would enhance my capability – sharpening writing skills and improve professionalism in the field of journalism.

Socially, I'm a member of the Sabah Journalists Association and the pro tem secretary general of the proposed BIMP-EAGA Media Council.
